DIY Wedding Sound & Lighting at Llanfendigaid Estate

There’s a particular kind of estate that doesn’t just host your wedding, it hands you the keys and lets you make it your own. Llanfendigaid Estate, tucked into the coast at the southern edge of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park near Tywyn, is that kind of place.

This stunning estate has been in the Nanney-Wynn family and their forebears since records began in 1241 until 2022 when Gareth and family took the once in a lifetime opportunity to take it on, with historic Royal roots that stretch back to Owain Gwynedd, the first Prince of Wales. At its heart sits Llanfendigaid House, a Grade II* listed Georgian manor built in the 13th century and renovated to its current form in 1746. With a modern focus on sustainability and renewable energy, around it sit a scatter of cottages, a converted cow shed, a pod and a shepherd’s hut, all set in gardens with an indoor heated pool and views out towards the sea.

Take exclusive use of the whole estate and you get room to sleep up to 36 adults, six children in cots, and eight dogs. Combined with grounds suited to a humanist blessing or civil ceremony, it’s why Llanfendigaid has become known as one of the best DIY wedding venues in Wales.

Rock the House has supplied DJ equipment, PA and lighting for two weddings at Llanfendigaid so far. This guide covers what the venue offers, and how a flexible sound and lighting hire fits around a multi-day stay there.

Because everyone is staying on site, the celebration doesn’t have to be squeezed into one afternoon and evening.

Multi day DIY weddings are massively gaining popularity in the UK. It might start the night before with a relaxed arrival playlist and drinks in the grounds as people settle in. The wedding day itself carries its own soundtrack, from the ceremony through speeches, first dance and the late night party. Then there’s the day after: coffee in the morning, stories from the dancefloor, something gentle playing while everyone comes back down to earth, maybe a BBQ later on for dinner and a night to relax or even party again, why not!

A DIY wedding should sound like you. Some couples build a careful playlist. Others have a friend who’s known for keeping the dancefloor full. Plenty want both.

We can provide a professional DJ setup so you can play your own music with confidence, whether that’s a Spotify list via phone or laptop for background music, or handing over to someone in the wedding party.

If you’ve got a DJ among your guests, a guest slot can make the evening extra personal. We supply the DJ equipment, PA and lighting so your chosen DJ can arrive with a USB and get straight into their set. No complicated setup, no borrowed 80s speakers from Uncle Dave’s garage, no rig to haul in the back of a car or faff setting up. If they’ve had enough you can seamlessly switch back to Spotify via Bluetooth or a wired connection.

At a venue as characterful as Llanfendigaid, lighting should lift the space, not compete with it. That matters even more here, since Eryri was designated an International Dark Sky Reserve in 2015, one of only 18 in the world, and the estate benefits from genuinely dark, undisturbed skies.

Our automatic, sound responsive party lighting brings the dancefloor to life once the evening gets going, while softer lighting sets a warm tone earlier in the night. Enough atmosphere to make the party memorable, without drowning out the thing that makes this estate special after dark. Our lights are easily changed with an included remote control.
